UK ETA Eligibility FAQs
Do EU citizens need an ETA?
Yes. Nationals of EU countries (except Ireland) can apply and now require an ETA for travel to the UK.
I’m a British or Irish citizen — do I need an ETA?
No. British and Irish citizens do not need an ETA.
I live in Ireland — do I need an ETA to enter the UK?
Many travellers entering from Ireland (within the Common Travel Area) do not need an ETA. Check the GOV.UK guidance for the exact rules.
Does holding an ETA guarantee entry?
No. Entry is decided by UK Border Force on arrival.
My passport changed — is my ETA still valid?
No. ETAs are linked to a single passport. If you get a new passport, apply for a new ETA.
